February, 2010: SEI announces the addition of the latest geophysical tool to our ever expanding geophysical capabilities: Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW).

MASW is the latest advancement in seismic survey methods that is rapidly becoming the preeminent seismic tool for engineering geology.  MASW uses the dispersive nature of surface waves to map the values of shear wave velocities (Vs) of the underlying soil and rock layers.  These shear-wave velocities correlate well to density, and are a common proxy where drilling may be too costly, time consuming, or impossible.

The depth of investigation is typically about 50% of the distance of the geophone spread along the surface and does not suffer the same velocity inversion problems as other seismic methods do.  Therefore, this method is perfect for detecting weak zones and voids.  The results are typically provided as interpolated cross-sections of shear-wave velocity along the transect lines generated from dozens of individual “shots” and are GPS referenced for easy boring location and correlation.  The data provided by the MASW method is quantitative in nature, with little room for error in interpretation.

August, 2009:  Thank you to everyone who stopped at our booths at the recent FES and ASCE Conferences.  We appreciate the opportunity to discuss your projects and how geophysics may help.  Please call us for more information.  Our next conference is the 2009 Florida Remediation Conference in October.

April, 2009:  SEI is pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting at the 2009 ASCE Water Resources Seminar on Friday, April 17, 2009.  If you are attending the event, please stop by our booth.  We have conducted some interesting projects using geophysics to evaluate water resources.

March, 2009: SEI on winning teams for FDOT District 1 and OOCEA contracts for geotechnical services.  For the FDOT District 1, we teamed with Williams Earth Sciences, Inc., who we successfully teamed with for the FDOT District 7 contract.  For the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority we teamed with Nodarse and Associates, Inc.  We look forward to working with our teams on these upcoming projects!

September, 2008: SEI is pleased to announce Jonathan Welker has joined SEI as a Staff Geologist.  Jonathan has  a background in marine geophysics and extensive experience in the Tampa area related to environmental evaluations and GIS mapping.

August, 2008: SEI is pleased to announce Christopher Gray has joined us as a Geophysical Technician.  Chris will assist in fieldwork in our GPR and ERI operations.

March, 2008:  SEI is pleased to announce that Heather Ribble has joined SEI as Operations Assistant.  Heather has an excellent background in office operations and we welcome her.

November, 2007: The SEI family is proud to announce that we have grown by one.  Jackson Purcell was born to Scott and Nichole Purcell on November 1, 2007.   Mom, baby, and dad are healthy and doing well.

June, 2007: SEI now accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express so that our clients have the flexible and easy payment options.

March, 2007: SEI is pleased to announce, in conjunction with the Karst Waters Institute, the 2007 William L. Wilson Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Ms. Megan Curry.  Ms Curry is a graduate student at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Socorro, New Mexico.  Her thesis of study concerns the geomicrobiological & geochemical biogenicity of moonmilk formations in Thursday Morning Cave, Colorado; Thrush Cave, Alaska; and Spider Cave & Pahoehoe Cave, New Mexico.  Congratulations Megan and we look forward to your advancement of geoscience.

February, 2007: SEI is pleased to announce Andrew L. Glasbrenner, P.G. has joined the SEI team as a Senior Geologist.  Drew is a graduate of USF and has an extensive background in ERI, GPR, MASW seismic surveys, and piezocone penetration testing.

January, 2007:  SEI is proud to announce the 5 year service anniversary of Kent McElheny, Geologist.  Kent is an expert GPR operator and a graduate of USF's Geology Department.  Thank you Kent for 5 great years!!
